Fishing Villages of the Cape Peninsular

This series of photographs won the Bruce Wilson Memorial competition in Ottawa in 2012. The competition calls for a series of 5 black and white prints.

This series is about fishing villages on the Cape Peninsular in South Africa. Fishing villages the world over have much in common. Fishing activities at the villages of Hout Bay and Kalk Bay, on the Atlantic and Indian ocean side of the peninsular respectively are shown here. I hope from these few images you get a sense of what life is like for fishermen in these villages and perhaps even recognise it personally if you have roots in a fishing community.
